What are the traditional foods for a Japanese bento?

I've decided that I'm finally going to learn how to cook this year and I'm a Japan-lover so of course I'd be most excited about bringing bento lunches to bring to school. I would like to know some of the most commonly used foods in bento lunches. Thanks! What are the traditional foods for a Japanese bento?

For me, bento (almost) always has white rice, umeboshi (or plum pickle), and tamagoyaki, or Japanese omelette.

In addition, we usually bring grilled fish and wilted spinach or any other green vegetables. Stir-fry is also popular because it goes well with white rice.

Bento is a compromise in terms of cooking technique. Everything needs to be cooked through especially during summer to avoid food poisoning. What are the traditional foods for a Japanese bento?
any thing can go in a bento lunch mostly its veggies (cooked or pickled) rice or noddles and a meat. sure you know they make faces of animals of have it look like some thing. so all depend on what you are feeling to eat fish pork beef veggies and starch. there is no common items ( well pickled veggies is) in one it's what ever the person put in the bowl. What are the traditional foods for a Japanese bento?
