Bento is traditionally wrapped in a cloth pouch or tied with a large square of beautiful cloth( furoshiki) for carrying. A lot of effort is put into the food in a bento box-as with most things Japanese, it's considered an art form and must taste good but also be pleasing to the eye.

It is Japanese. I don't think it has to do with the way it is cooked, it is simply different japanese foods in a little tray.
