If you go to an Asian-Specialty store, you can get a giant bag of shumai dumplings for a relatively low price. Shumai's are always common pieces of the bento box in Japan. One or two dumplings are always great to have in your box.
(Not sure what to say if you want resteraunt style...but if you want the reald deal, then keep reading!)
Also, my favorite part of my bento box was the furikake rice my mom used to always make. You can get rice at...well, anywhere. As for the furikake, that's also a cheap find at the local Asian market. (I recommend the Otona No Furikake brand.) Just cook the rice until it's sticky, and mix in the furikake! It's so yummy!
Let's see...what else?
If you want vegetables (and you SHOULD), then stir-fry is also common. I like my bentos with spinach.
Hard-boiled eggs are also common Bento staples. One is usually cut in half, sometimes in a zig-zag pattern to look like a flower.
As for dessert, you can never go wrong with fruit! Nothing washes down those umami-rich flavors like a sweet, ripe strawberry!
Now, I don't know what kind of bento box you have, or how big it is, so I'm gonna leave the portion sizes up to you. If all goes well, then you should have an awesome bento lunch soon!
Good luck! : )What can i put in my bento box using limited availability and low budget?
