How are rice balls eaten in a bento?

how are rice balls eaten in a bento? (cold, hot, room temp.?)

Also, what are some non-meat fillings? How are rice balls eaten in a bento?
As a regular bento is basically a lunch box, foods it contains are usually eaten at room temperature (on picnics or at lunchtime in the office), but take-out carriers (hokaben) can contain hot food as well - depends what you bought and how long it takes you to get it home :), but the rice in rice balls (onigiri) is cooled before rolling, so they would be eaten at room temperature, not hot.

Possible onigiri fillings include:

fish (esp. salmon or tuna) or roe (fish eggs). Vegetarian versions have pickled plum, turnip, seaweed or kimchi. Technically, you can put whatever you like. It's the sugar in the rice which makes it a rice ball, not the filling. How are rice balls eaten in a bento?
make short grained rice, toss with a little salt. if u want to add anything, top with salmon or cooked eggs. wrap with nori (dried seaweed)
